Early this morning, I was hanging the birdfeeder on the feeding pole when I heard the Canada geese who inhabit our little golf course ponds. I looked up just in time to see a low, honking formation fly over. I never get tired of that.
There’s a pathway behind our house and as soon as I looked down a big 6-pointer stag trotted by, probably no more than ten feet away. Never get tired of that, either.
Somehow the deer seem to know when it’s hunting season, because we’ll go for months without seeing more than one or two does feeding in an open area outside our fence. But when hunting season starts, they all seem to come into town from the surrounding forests, and we often end up with mini-herds of 9 or 10 deer hanging around our neighborhood, often in our yard.
Here’s a pic of one of the big stags in our front yard a few days ago.

This is why we can’t have nice myrtle in our front yard.
I’ve been hard at work on book 2 of the Guardian in Exile series. I know what it’s about and have it plotted out in three acts, though things could change during the writing. I also have quite a bit of fun worldbuilding research accumulated, and have a few act-one scenes in first draft form.
Here’s a nice review for book 1:
Randy Littlejohn’s GUARDIAN IN EXILE: The God Eater’s Hellion is a hardboiled urban fantasy that effectively uses a highly cinematic, adrenaline-fueled storytelling style. Fans of The Dresden Files and Good Omens will especially appreciate the nonstop crime-solving set against a grand, millennia-spanning battle between angels, demons, and fae. ~Cameron Gillespie for IndieReader.
And here’s a nice book 1 review from a Kindle reader with the handle, Ancient TV Showrunner:
Best Fantasy Novel I’ve Read in Years!
It’s 1:53 PM and I’ve just finished reading a really fine book that kept me awake and wondering “what if?” all night. The last time I became as absorbed by the characters, plot and overall excitement was when I first discovered Harry Dresden, and the hero of GUARDIAN IN EXILE is far more likeable than Harry. The only thing negative I can say about GIE is that it’s the only book in the series, and I want more. A lot more. Oh well, I have one consolation. Now I can finally get dressed and walk a certain frustrated black Lab who I totally forgot to let outside to do her business last night. (Oh no! I forgot to feed her too. Yikes!)
And speaking of the ebook edition of Guardian in Exile: The God Eater’s Hellion, it goes on sale for .99 starting on 9/27. The sale runs for 10 days. Buy one for someone special!
Thanks for tuning in,
Randy
